An ownCloud installation is available to the community of the digital garden on https://nuage.potager.org/.
ownCloud is a free software which allows you to store files and other data on an online server. ownCloud can replace proprietary services (such as Dropbox, Google Drive, iCloud Drive, or Google Calendar) to keep a decentralized Internet and to escape mass surveillance.
With ownCloud you can:
- Share files with other people, whether they have an ownCloud account or not.
- Access your files from different devices (computer, smartphone, etc.).
- Work collaboratively and in real time on texts (in ODT format).
- Share calendars, contacts, and task lists.
For more info, visit the official ownCloud website.
Who can use this service?
People who have a mailbox on our server can use their email address and password to connect to ownCloud.
We can also create other accounts on demand.
If you want to use this service collectively, for example to store online the working documents of a group, you have several options:
- If all the members of the group have a mailbox on our server, one of you can share a folder with the others.
- If not all the members of the group have a mailbox on our server,
you can ask us to create for you either:
- A collective account with a shared password.
- Individual accounts for those people.
You can also share files with accounts on other ownCloud installations than the one on our server.
Connecting ownCloud with your computer or your telephone
Using ownCloud you can access your files across several devices. It is possible to integrate your ownCloud storage directly in your desktop environment or your smartphone, without going through the web interface.
For Windows, Mac OS X, Android et iOS, refer to the official ownCloud installation guides.
For Debian or Ubuntu you can either:
Install the
owncloud-client
package, which creates anownCloud
folder in your home folder which will be automatically synchronized with your data online.- With this technique, a copy of your files is saved on your disk and is available even if you are offline.
Configure GNOME Online Accounts to access your ownCloud files from the file manager.
- With this technique you can mount and unmount your ownCloud folder whenever you need it, without keeping a complete copy of you files on your disk.
You can make those connections go through Tor by configuring Tor as a proxy in the network configuration of your operating system.
